This wine is as elegant on the inside as it is on the outside. Presented in a beautiful ceramic bottle, it is entangled with aromas of raspberry, blueberry and plum. Perfectly balanced, and complex with a patent minerality.
This is made from an indigenous Catalunya variety Trepat from 80 year old bush vines at high altitude in the south of Catalonia. After hand-harvesting and fermentation with native yeasts the wine is aged for 6 months in clay.
Joan Franquet grew up in Priorat, during a long career in food exportation he always dreamed of returning to his rural roots, in particular that of winemaking. In 2009 Joan took the appropriate steps to pursue this dream, taking on old vines from his wife’s family in Conca de Barberà along with some of his own family’s vines in Priorat, he set up Costador Terroirs Mediterrani. Joan farms all his vines organically, the only intervention in vineyard is the use of pheromones to repel pests, a little copper and sulphur if and when needed and sometimes the use of sodium bicarbonate to prevent powdery mildew.
