Roll up for this super-complex, deeply coloured and fleshy-textured wine - the perfect bottle to impress your friends with or simply enjoy with a spot of food.
Expect notes of ripe nectarine, pear, apple and almond. It's skinsy, and there is some grip, but it's very fine and the wine is super clean and pure. It's a wine loaded with charisma, texture and freshness and is remarkably easy to drink. It also gives us a little glimpse into the deep history of this part of Spain.
Made with the Malvar grape variety, which extends across the region and is very similar to the Palomino Fino. The grapes ferment with their skins and stems for 50 days and are later aged in French oak barrels. The vines used to produce this wine are 70-80 years old with a terroir of chalky soil.
From Catalonia, Marc Isart is head winemaker at the much acclaimed Bernabeleva, where he is spearheading the property’s transformation to biodynamics. Isart works on “getting back in touch with the home soil, nature and farming.” The La Maldición label (translates to “The Curse”), named for the laborers’ struggles to reach and then work the land at this secluded property in Valdelichia, Madrid. These vineyards are located in the Arganda del Ray sub-zone within the Viños de Madrid DO.
