Sylvain's trademark wine Les Grelots is named after the 3 grape varieties that go in to making it: GRE for Grenache Noir, LOT for Merlot and S for Syrah, this vintage saw a small percentage of Carignan included to the blend. Coming mainly from his own two vineyards and a little from a friend’s vineyard, the grapes are carbonically macerated and vinified separately, then blended before bottling. 2018 was quite a warm vintage in the Ardeche but Sylvain managed to pick the grapes while they were still full of acid, creating a wine that is full and still has a energetic streak of life. Such a unique wine and this vintage is outstanding.
From the picturesque town of Alba-la-Romaine in the Ardèche, Sylvain Bock produces some of our favourite wines in the region. His vineyards encompass a number of soil types, mainly basalt and limestone, and are planted with a wide variety of grapes, producing wines that really got our attention with their purity and grace. Sylvain is strongly committed to biodiversity and organic farming practices, which he sees as key to the wellbeing of the soil and vines and his lands teems with wild flowers and insect life.
