This wine is oh so fresh and oh so fruity with an undercurrent of salinity. In the traditional style of txakolina from Getaria, this light and crisp wine is bottled with a little bit of residual carbon dioxide to give it its signature natural spritz.
Ameztoi Txakolina is traditionally built with high acidity and low alcohol, utilizing only the native grape variety Hondarrabi Zuri. The wine is fermented in refrigerated stainless steel tanks utilizing indigenous yeasts from the vineyard. The tanks are closed to preserve natural carbonation from fermentation, which is the preferred style of Getaria. The tanks are kept chilled to near 0 degrees Celsius before bottling, which preserves the wine’s delicate, effervescent character.
In the heart of the Getaria Txakoli denomination the Ameztoi Wine Cellar is situated with its vineyards fighting against the sea on dramatic cliffs. Ameztoi is a long-standing txakoli producer based in the coastal village of Getaria in the province of Gipuzkoa (Basque Country). Five generations of the Ameztoi family have tended vines and made wines in the area.
