Grapes: Mondeuse Style: Red ABV: 13% Production: Natural Any added sulphites: No Filtered: No Size: 75cl
An elegant and delicious red from relative newcomer Pierre Cotton, brimming with delicate floral notes and subtle tannins - if one could bottle the gentle Spring breeze and first flowering blossom of the year this may well be it!
This wine is made with a lesser known grape Mondeuse, all purchased from Julien Viana in Saint de la Porte, Savoie. While Mondeuse may have fallen out of fashion in the 70s, Cotton is putting it front and centre for us all to enjoy. Delicate notes of violet, raspberry and rose petals on the nose - the palate is equally fine and elegant, with discreet tannins. Vinification is carbonic maceration with whole bunches, followed by spontaneous fermentation. It is then aged in large oak, unfined and unfiltered, with no added sulphites.
Located in the heart of the Côte de Brouilly in Beaujolais, over the last few years Pierre Cotton has slowly been taking over his family domain in Odenas. Before his return, Pierre spent two years studying and interning with some of the greatest natural growers in the Loire Valley. Furthermore he shares a deep friendship with some of the regions brightest minds including Yvon Metras who has been a great mentor in the early years (and still today). Pierre now makes superb wines and is selling wine all over the globe.
