Crisp with hints of lime and passionfruit, wild nose and a complex palate.
Chenin is an unusual grape to find planted in the Mediterranean, where the climate couldn’t be further from the Atlantic-influenced, foggy Loire Valley that the grape calls home. This is from 60+ year old vines that give rich character, bright acidity and all-round wonderful balance to a wine raised in clay amphora.
Joan Franquet grew up in Priorat, during a long career in food exportation he always dreamed of returning to his rural roots, in particular that of winemaking. In 2009 Joan took the appropriate steps to pursue this dream, taking on old vines from his wife’s family in Conca de Barberà along with some of his own family’s vines in Priorat, he set up Costador Terroirs Mediterrani. Joan farms all his vines organically, the only intervention in vineyard is the use of pheromones to repel pests, a little copper and sulphur if and when needed and sometimes the use of sodium bicarbonate to prevent powdery mildew.
